On the House
On October 29th 2011, 8 lucky campuses across Canada experienced Virgin Mobile On the House and got hooked up with over $50,000 worth of sponsorship and prizes from Virgin Mobile and Samsung Canada.
This, is how it happened.
Virgin Mobile is all about rewarding their members with the best benefits. So, we asked students across Canada to show and tell us why it’s better to be a member of THEIR organization, team, club, crew – and they didn’t disappoint! There were videos, pictures and amazing writes up talking about diverse clubs, conferences and initiatives at over 32 campuses. 163 teams registered and collected 23,515 votes to support these student initiatives and bring the race home! All the while the details about what was to come on October 29th was kept top secret.
Participants were sent directions to their start location on their campus, and rather than tell you what happened, well, we’d much rather just show you.
Here’s a glimpse at the insanity from our top 8 campuses. This is what happened.
The race tested members’ ingenuity, longevity, team work and networking skills. Through the tears, smiles and of course, the most delicious Smoke’s Poutine in the country, 8 campus teams rose above all others and emerged victorious! They are the…
- – Justice Students’ Society at University of Regina
- – Science Council at UOIT
- – HKSA at University of Calgary
- – QHO at Queen’s University
- – DeGroote Marketing Association at McMaster University
- – Habitat for Humanity at SMU
- – Finance Investment Club at University of Guelph
- – Peace Treats at McGill University
The 64 student leaders on each team were each awarded a sweet new Samsung Galaxy II smartphone and a whole lot of bragging rights – congratulations!
But that wasn’t everything, the grand prize pack from Virgin Mobile – 10 Samsung Galaxy II smartphones, 15 Samsung cameras and $2,000 cash sponsorship for your crew (#AwesomeSauce) was still up for grabs to any of the top 40 teams that made it to race day. So many teams had tenacity, courage and serious pride for their campus & crew. There were 3 teams in particular that blew away the judging rubric: Peace Treats from McGill, SMUC’s from St. Mary’s and the Science Council from UOIT went above and beyond.
Their videos, blog posts, Facebook quotes and tweets kept them all in close contention to take home the big kahuna prize pack. After tabulating the results the verdict was in. Hailing from UOIT, the Science Council captured the $10,000 grand prize pack! Virgin Mobile was so impressed at the overwhelming efforts that both Peace Treats and St. Mary University Caribbean Society SMUC’s put out to fight for that top spot that they decided to surprise these two team captains each with a brand new Samsung Galaxy tablet to keep!
The On The House experience connected over 9,000 students on October 29th 2011. It brought awareness about students and campus initiatives that may not have otherwise had the opportunity to receive sponsorship and recognition. The team here at CampusPerks has heard such overwhelming and positive stories from our participants. To quote one student Gillian Singer from McGill “Virgin Mobile On The House Race was tons of fun, we got to spread awareness about our club, while also creating awesome memories and building our team cohesion!”
Congrats again to all the clubs and teams who participated – you guys rock! If you’re interested in taking part in an upcoming sponsorship programs, drop us a line in the comments section and we’ll be in touch. Party on!
